Random thoughts

It was just some thoughts about the US plan to expand their military existence in Africa, as after some "relatively" steadily peaceful break in the continent, everything started going crazy again lately:
Zimbabwe's Mugabe tells critics to GO HANG

and tension in DR Congo

and Uganda back to troubles

and "seems" that their plans in Somalia is not going perfectly

and Nigeria's attacks on oil companies still running after last week's a Lebanese engineer got killed

and random accusation for Sudan

BUT still the northern and souther part of the continent is keeping uphold in one piece

I hope that it do not goes like the time of increasing their existence in Mid-east, before everything got sparked.

Human Rights in Egypt

The government of Egypt has denied the American report of human rights and considered it as a report developed by an "unidentified" entity.

Abou-ElGheit (the Egyptian FM) denied the report and said that UN has not given any right for any country to be responsible for human rights issue in the whorld. He added that, it seems that those who developed such report are not aware of the situation in these countries and they build their "facts" upon vague information, and that the countries that would like to talk about human rights issues has to focus first on their issues, in the first direct and critical criticism from the Egyptian government to the American administration.

During their report, the American FM mentioned that the acts of the Egyptain government is far from the international frame of human rights, mentioning the arrests of Muslims brotherhood members, and the ex-runner up for the presidential elections Ayman Nour, beside criticising the "emergency status" that the country is running, which permits police to stop any person in the street and ask for their ID and fetching them and their houses.

Well, it seems that Bush administration is working their best on destroying their relationship with the few countries that would not curse them in their media, but anyways, despite the "true" accusations for arresting the unloyal unfaithful muslim brotherhood who are using Islam as a cover for their crimes and taking money from other countries to oppose the government, and despite Ayman Nour who do not has any political experience and forged signatures for forming his "targetless" party, again with unidentified sources of funds, and despite that we had the state of emergency in Egypt for around 20 years now because of the terrorist attacks during that period, and despite that half of the developed world has introduced the rules from that emergency state these days.

I would add to that report the tortures that happen to prisoners in Egypt, which take place for people arrested in higher sensitivity cases; terrorism, spying and similar.

BUT, hold on a sec......isn't it the country's rights to defend itself from external threats as terrorism or spying....unfortunately we don't have Guantanamo's but I personally would prefer emergency state and torturing in the mentioned cases than living in terrorism threat or under rule of a crazy political leader who would endanger the country.

Yacoubian Building

I was criticising this author for the vulgar language in his bestseller novel "Yacoubian Building", which shows the normal day basis life for different extents of Egyptians; from the ex-aristocrat, low socio-economic class, homosexual, to the nouveau riche. Alaa El-Aswany (Author) had this interview at BBC's HardTALK in which he speaks about the current situation in Egypt, criticise politics, and talks about Egyptian ideology.

It's worth watching......check it here.

War drums

Well, I was just checking news on BBC when they were showing a report about the high "unofficial" inflation in Iran, and showed couple of people in a market saying things like, the rich people are living in comfort but we....we hear that meat are expensive and we just say, then we are not buying it....we do not even know how much is it, but we know that we can not afford buying it.

Then!! I was wondering why the H*** people who are watching news on BBC would care about how big the inflation in Iran is?! or if people would care about such thing, so why don't they show the inflation in other countries with high inflation too, but unfortunately there is a huge focus these days on "how in terrible conditions Iranians are living in, and how they are complaining about their government," and a huge focus on people who dislike the government....SO?! are we seeing another Pre-Iraq war time? or are political leaders trying to make us think that a war against "Iranian government" would be the right solution to make the life of Iranians better......sounds the same as their western neighbors story, isn't it? and then couple of years later, we would realise that the situation before the war for those people was actually better......and we start looking for solutions for the complicated situation that we created?!

I do not know why, but I have a feeling that humanity is reversing back to middle-ages where people were solving their problems by simply invading, occupying, killing, eliminating the "others" who are different......while if we are really developing to a modern world, we should be thinking about our problems and discussing them in a rational way by listening to the "others" and knowing their point of view too.

Stop the clash of civilisation

Israeli war criminal

Well, last week Israel's TV1 was showing a documentary movie about Ruach HaShakid (Spirit of the Shakid), the Israeli army unit lead by Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, the current minister of infrastructure during the six days war in 1967 that resulted in Israeli invasion of Sinai (Egypt), Golan Heights (Syria) and West Bank and East Jerusalem (Jordan). The documentary showed interviews with some people who served in that unit, and they were saying that they feel guilt for killing 250 unarmed Egyptian soldiers who were surrendering and having their arms up high in the air, when they got an order from their commander at that time, Ben-Eliezer, to open fire against the Geneva's claimed to be POWs, waiving against all Human Rights and international treaties. Some of those ex-soldiers admitted that they feel sorry for doing such thing, as by that time they were still young dudes, driven by youth-spirit and if time goes back they will never do such thing again. Despite that the soldiers who committed that crime themselves were interviewed in this movie and they were talking about it, but the minister guy was "defending" himself by saying that those soldiers were not actually Egyptians, but they were Palestinians.......funny, isn't it?

While showing this documentary sparked anger in Egypt that led to canceling the Ben guy's visit to Egypt that was supposed to take place today, fearing that he may get arrested by Egyptian police for allegations as a war criminal. The sarcastic thing that yesterday's Egyptian people assembly's meeting has witnessed the first incident that the majority of PMs agreeing on something from NDP (the ruling party), opposition and MBs, which is starting international accusation of Israel in this case. At the same time, for people who would not know about the reality in Egypt, they might think that Egyptians were surprised from such incident as if it is not an Israeli habit, or as if it was the only incident, but actually people have forgotten about Madraset Bahr ElBakar massacre when during the six days war, the Israeli air forces bombed a primary school in Delta killing hundreds of children, and a lot of other similar incidents.

Despite BBC's poll survey that just showed today that majority of people around the world sees Israel as on the top of the list of having negative influence on the world followed by Iran and the US, this incident sounds more funny than it seems. First of all, according to the report by Israel's Human Rights institution, they can not charge anybody from that Shakid's unit, as they already have a long list of people to be charged for war crimes starting from the top of the country's government till soldiers. The other thing is that, unsurprisingly, Israel is not part of the Hague's International Justice Court!! which means that whatever war crimes are committed in this country, it will always stay as an internal issue.

Monotheism dialogue

Finally, and for the first time after the Pope's September speech that sparked controversy, if not anger, Sheikh Sayed Tantawi of Al-Azhar accepted the invitation from Vatican to meet the Pope. So, the heads of the biggest two religious institutions among the world are meeting to talk about the future of the Muslim-Christian committee for dialogue about religions.

Can't they invite whoever's the head of any representative of a Jewish institution and create an open-monotheistic dialogue!! This would be great, ain't it?!

CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS HOSPITAL, US

Please circulate to all you know Cancer update -- John Hopkins -- Cancer News from John Hopkins:

1. No plastic containers in micro.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.

Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.

He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.

This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.

Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.

Cover food with a paper towel instead.
